About Blethan Accountancy
Blethan Accountancy was started by Nicola Harrison who is a chartered accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.
Nicola started her career working in audit at one of the big 4 accountancy firms. After some time in audit, she worked in industry for a few years where she particularly enjoyed preparing financial statements. More recently she has moved into the charity sector working as a finance director for a charity in Cambridge. Nicola has also acted as treasurer for some of churches she has been a member.
Nicola set up the practice to be able to help support small and medium sized charities with their accounting needs.
Services
Our services are all designed to be provided remotely which mean they are only suitable for charities that maintain electronic records. However, within the Cambridgeshire area it will be possible for Nicola to meet up with clients if required.
Independent examinations
It is sometimes difficult for charities to find willing independent volunteers to perform their independent examinations of the charity's accounts. If a charity's income is over £25,000 per annum then the charity will need an independent examination provided it hasn't reached the thresholds for a full audit. As Nicola is a Chartered Accountant she is able provide independent examinations for charities whose income is over £250,000.
Charity accounts
There are different types of charity accounts and the type required will depend on the size of the charity and whether it also a company. Here at Blethan Accountancy, Nicola can help with preparation of receipts and payments accounts as well as accounts that are compliant with the Charity SORP and FRS 102.
Bookkeeping
If the charity needs regular help with the day to day bookkeeping this is something that Blethan Accountancy can help with. There are a number of web-based bookkeeping apps available that can be used for this purpose and Nicola can work with you to ensure that you choose the right one for your needs.
Virtual finance director
Nicola can act as a virtual finance director and as well as providing bookkeeping and charity account preparation, can also assist with budgeting and forecasting, preparing management accounts and helping with VAT and corporation tax returns. The exact services provided will depend on the needs of the charity.
